Sit N' Pretty School For Dogs is designed for all stages of your dogs life. We offer Puppy, Basic Obedience, Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Community Canine (Advanced CGC) Classes. I am a proud member of (APDT) Association of Professional Dog Trainers.
My philosophy of dog training is to make it as fun and positive as possible. If you and your dog are having fun while training, not only will your dog learn the exercises, but he will enjoy the whole training process. We use alot of food and praise for motivation, followed by reward.
The best time to start training your dog is when they are puppies. If your puppy is at least 4 mos old you may want to enroll them in my AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. This is a 6 week course, and it is a great way to start your puppy off on the right paw! These classes consist of Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsibility. I will give you information on all your puppy-raising questions including housebreaking, crate training, chewing, and practical skills such as coming when called, or whatever issues that you may have. At the end of this course your puppy will be tested. There are 20 different steps that your puppy must pass to receive your S.T.A.R. Puppy certificate from the AKC. Following the testing, a graduation ceremony will be conducted. Diplomas and Trophies will be awarded. All of my classes are for Pure Bred Dogs and Mixed Breeds alike.
Group dog training classes provide guidance and instruction, additional motivation to do the work, an opportunity to practice in the presence of distractions, a controlled situation for dog-and-owner socialization and a supportive social setting for the owner to interact with other dog lovers. Although a group setting is great for training, I understand that some dogs do better one-on-one. For those dogs I offer Private sessions that are in my home.
Basis Obedience Class
The biggest misconception about dog training is, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" This is just not true! I have worked with many older dogs, and they still love to learn new things. So whether you have a young dog or an older one, my Basic Obedience class might be the class for you. This is an 8 week course that covers all of the basic commands such as: Sit, Down, Heeling (walking nicely on a leash) Sit Stays, Down Stays, Recall (Come when called), working through distractions, socialization skills, and we also work on individual problems that you may have. The 1st week is our registration. This is when you will fill out your application for class, and bring your proof of vaccinations. All dogs must be Up To Date on vaccinations. There are NO DOGS on this night. The 2nd week is when the training begins. Training continues thru week 7 and then week 8 is our graduation Party! We will be holding a dog match that will be judged on everything that you have learned throughout the course. Trophies will be awarded to the 4 highest scoring dogs, along with Diplomas, and Perfect Attendance awards. Graduation pictures of your dogs will be on display for everyone to see until you take them home with you.
AKC Canine Good Citizen Program
I am an AKC Approved Evaluator, so if you are interested in being tested for CGC I hold the testing on week 7 of my basic obedience class. If you are planning on going on to do therapy work with your dog, a CGC is a requirement for many therapy dog groups. When you pass your CGC I will give you the paperwork needed to send into AKC to request your certificate.
All my classes have limited enrollment so you and your dog will have individual attention. Classes are held in a large, secure, facility. My instructors and I have years of experience in training dogs. We have the knowledge that it takes to help you to reach your goals. My goal is to have you leave my class with the feeling of accomplishment, along with a well behaved dog. And I think that you will have both!
